A late rally from Florida saves the game and gives them hope for the Stanley Cup

The Florida Panthers came out on top 3-2 against Vegas Golden Knights in a tightly-contested Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final on Thursday night.

Carter Verhaeghe was the star of the show as he bagged home an all-important overtime winner with 4:27 remaining. Matthew Tkachuk scored the tying goal for the Panthers late in regulation time after Brandon Montour had reduced the deficit to 2-1.

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves, while his opponent Adin Hill stopped 20 shots, but unfortunately for him let the only one in overtime slip through his hands.

“Normally that’s a shot that we’re going to give up, get the save and move on,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “It wasn’t like an odd-man rush through the middle so I didn’t mind the way we defended it. … I mean, they’ve got good players. They’re going to make some plays.”

Jonathan Marchessault and Mark Stone scored the two goals for Vegas, both in power play.

The Golden Knights still lead the series 2-1 and look favorites to clinch the Stanley Cup final, despite their setback. Game 4 will be played on Saturday night.
