Peter Laviolette and Washington Capitals decided to go their separate ways.

His contract was until June 30th.
“We are grateful for Peter’s leadership and dedication to our organization for the last three seasons,” GM Brian MacLellan announced.
Laviolette’s record as the head coach of the organization for 3 years has been 115-78-27.
Washington will not be part of the postseason of the NHL for the 1st time since 2014.
Peter Laviolette won the Stanley Cup in 2006 as the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. He also reached the finals as the HC with the Flyers in 2010 and Predators in 2017 but lost them.
Peter has 752 victories as head coach in NHL – 7th most all-time and 3rd amid current coaches.
