JJ Peterka had a stellar performance with two goals and an assist, propelling the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-3 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. Alex Tuch contributed the go-ahead goal early in the third period, completing Buffalo’s rally from a 3-1 deficit midway through the first period.
Jack Quinn added to the offensive prowess with a goal and two assists, while Dylan Cozens notched a goal and an assist for the Sabres. Goaltender Devon Levi made a significant impact, stopping 37 shots and securing Buffalo’s first win this season in 14 games when trailing by at least two goals after the first period.
Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings scored a goal, reaching the 40-point mark for the 18th consecutive season. Before the game, the Kings captain was honored for becoming the franchise leader in games played and assists, in addition to achieving 400 career goals earlier in the season. Despite contributions from Adrian Kempe, who had a goal and an assist, and Pierre-Luc Dubois, the Kings couldn’t withstand Buffalo’s resurgence. Goaltender Cam Talbot made 33 saves in the losing effort.
Los Angeles finds itself in a challenging stretch, dropping 12 of its last 14 games and posting a 2-7-5 record since December 28. Although currently holding the first wild card spot in the Western Conference, the Kings are just five points away from falling out of a playoff position.
