He was fired from Inter Miami after their awful form in the last 15 games

Phil Neville has been appointed assistant coach of the Canadian national team, the local football federation announced. Neville took on the new challenge a week after being fired by MLS team Inter Miami.

The former Manchester United player, who previously coached the England women’s team, joined Inter Miami in 2021 but was sacked after a run of 10 defeats and 5 wins that left the team bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

Richard Shaw, who played for Crystal Palace and Coventry City and coached Crystal Palace and Watford’s youth ranks, has also joined head coach John Herdman’s staff, Canada Soccer added.

The Maple Leafs’ next match is against Panama on June 15 in the CONCACAF Nations League finals.
