Teams will have two sets of tires less at their disposal
Pirelli have made the decision to test the new qualifying rule, which will oblige the teams to use all 3 compounds of tires for qualifying.
That will result in them having 2 sets less for dry conditions. The drivers must use hards in Q1, mediums in Q2 and softs in Q3, if conditions are dry.
This will mean instead of the usual package of tires – 8 sets of softs, 3 mediums and 2 hards, drivers will be granted – 4 softs, 4 mediums and 3 hards.
The Italian company will also introduce a new wet tire with improved sustainability to avoid the usage of electric tire blankets. The objective of this decision is to drop off thermal blankets entirely for the 2024 season.
