Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson once told him that Manchester United are willing to pay Tottenham Hotspur £100m for Dele Alli.
Pochettino had a key role in Alli’s rise as he helped the Englishman make his breakthrough in the first team.
That didn’t go unnoticed by United’s former boss as he was impressed by Alli’s incredible progress up to an extend that the Scot gave him a £100m price tag.
“When he arrived (at Spurs) from Milton Keynes, he was a kid,” Pochettino said.
“We built a relationship and then step by step you could see the evolution of how he got to be his best, to be one of the best players in the Premier League.”
“I always remember Sir Alex Ferguson saying to me ‘I will sign him for £100 million’ and that was when £100million was £100million, like £200million or £300million now.”
However, Alli’s career has been a downhill in the last couple of years with the 27-year-old struggling to find form, which forced him to leave Spurs in January 2022. He now plays for Everton after brief loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas.
