Portugal eliminated Slovenia after penalties as both teams failed to score during the regular and extra time and Selecao advanced to the ¼ finals of the Euro 2024 where they will play against France.
Nothing significant happened during the 1st half between Portugal and Slovenia, and despite the fact that Selecao had the initiative in the half, Roberto Martinez’s players finished without a shot on target after the 1st 45 minutes. The best chance for Portugal came in the extra time of the 1st half, but Bernardo Silva’s shot didn’t find the target.

Portugal started the 2nd half very well and dominated in the opening minutes as Cristiano Ronaldo shot from a free kick in the 55th minute as the ball would end up in the net but Jan Oblak saved it to keep the result 0-0.
At the end of the regular time, Cristiano had a chance, but he shot the ball inside the penalty area into Oblak’s hands, and the regular time finished without goals.
In the final minute of the 1st extra 15 minutes, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to give his country the lead from penalty but Slovenian goalkeeper again stopped the superstar and during the break between the 2 extra halves, Ronaldo was seen crying.
Pep made an embarrassing mistake in the 114th minute that left Benjamin Sesko 1 on 1 against Diogo Costa, but the Slovenian forward failed to score.
The match was decided after penalties and Slovenia choked as they missed their 1st 3 penalties while Portugal converted its 1st 3 penalties including the 1st one by Cristiano Ronaldo and Selecao advanced to the ¼ finals where they will face France.
