According to reports from British media, Premier League clubs are set to vote on a proposal to remove the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system from the start of the next season.
VAR has been a fixture in the English championship since 2019, but the current campaign has been marked by numerous controversial incidents. These incidents have amplified criticism of the system, prompting some teams and fans to question the fairness of the league.

Wolverhampton Wanderers has already taken the initiative by officially submitting a resolution to the Premier League, urging the removal of VAR this summer. This submission is expected to trigger a vote when representatives from the 20 clubs convene at their annual meeting in Harrogate on June 6.
In their statement, Wolves expressed that their decision was made “after careful consideration and with the utmost respect for the Premier League, the refereeing organization PGMOL, and our opponents.”

“We do not assign blame – we all seek the best possible outcome for football. All stakeholders have worked diligently to make the introduction of additional technology successful. However, after five seasons with VAR in the Premier League, it is time for a constructive and critical debate about its future. Our stance is that the cost we pay for a marginal increase in accuracy is not in line with the spirit of our game. Therefore, we advocate for its removal from the 2024/25 season,” Wolves’ statement emphasized.
