The German's contract with FA is until the end of the 2026 World Cup and he could opt to return in Premier League

Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as England manager may prove short-lived, according to former Chelsea defender and pundit Scott Minto, who believes the German coach could soon return to the Premier League.

Tuchel became the third non-Englishman to take charge of the Three Lions when he succeeded Gareth Southgate at the start of 2025. His goal is clear — to guide England to glory at the 2026 World Cup in North America. But despite a solid start that has seen six clean sheets in seven games, reports suggest the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss is “not enjoying” his role with the national team.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Matterface and Crook, Minto said he expects Tuchel to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United after the World Cup, given Amorim’s current struggles at Old Trafford.

“I personally think Ruben Amorim will last until the end of the season, and I personally think Thomas Tuchel will take over — we’ll see what happens and whether that’s the case or not. From what I’m hearing, Tuchel is not really particularly enjoying the England job,” Minto claimed.

While Tuchel’s England side have looked organised and defensively strong — with only one defeat, a 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal in June — questions remain about his long-term commitment. The 52-year-old has faced scrutiny for publicly describing the atmosphere at Wembley during a 3-0 win over Wales as “silent,” a remark that drew criticism from fans and pundits alike.

“I don’t think Eddie Howe would have come out and criticised the England fans last night,” Minto added. “He is who he is — very forthright, confident in himself, and one of the top managers in the world. I’m a fan of Tuchel, I thought what he did at Chelsea was brilliant, but maybe the England job just isn’t the right fit.”

Tuchel’s contract with the FA is believed to run until the end of the 2026 World Cup, but if Minto’s prediction proves accurate, the German could be heading back to club football sooner rather than later — potentially taking over a Manchester United side still searching for stability under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership.
