Paris Saint-Germain are considering letting Lionel Messi go this summer as a free agent just to free themselves of the burden of his huge salary, according to reports in France.
The French side have been hit with €9M fine for FFP violation back in September 2022 with a further €60M if they fail to oblige in the future. That has left the team in the position to cut its outcome and Messi might be one of the first victims of that policy.
The 7-time Ballon D’or winner has rediscovered some of his best form this year after struggling in his debut season. Messi has registered 18 goals in 32 appearances so far.
Messi’s contract expires at the end of this season and despite ongoing talks with the Argentinian superstar, the rumours suggest that it is unlikely the 35-year old stays with the club.
Sergio Ramos is another one, who might see his future with PSG cut short. The Spaniard has proven a solid first-choice in the defense backline for head-coach Christophe Galtier, but his wages might turn out to be the key factor in letting the 37-year old go, as PSG strive for wage-cut.
Saudi Arabian clubs are monitoring the ongoing situation with the two players and are allegedly ready to splash out big money to attract them both.
