Alex Wennberg was the unexpected hero for New York

For the second straight game, the New York Rangers needed overtime to secure a victory, and once again, an unsung hero delivered the game-winning goal. Alex Wennberg scored on a deflection 5:35 into overtime, lifting the Rangers to a 5-4 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final on Sunday in Sunrise, Florida.

With this win, the Rangers take a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is set for Tuesday, also in Sunrise.

Barclay Goodrow, who scored the overtime winner in Game 2, and Wennberg, who netted the decisive goal in Game 3, have stepped up in crucial moments for New York. Goodrow had four goals in 80 regular-season games, while Wennberg, acquired from the Seattle Kraken at the trade deadline, scored just once in 19 games with the Rangers.

The Rangers will look to build on their momentum and extend their series lead in the upcoming Game 4.
