Reece James has defended Chelsea’s striker Nicolas Jackson from criticism pointed towards him.
The Blues’ new signing was labeled as ‘not a natural goalscorer’ by Alan Shearer, which angered team boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Now captain James has stepped in and also disagreed with Shearer.
“He knows his ability and why he is at Chelsea.” James said.
“As a striker, you go through spells when you don’t score or miss chances.”
Jackson has endured a difficult start at Stamford Bridge since his summer move from Villareal, but an elusive hat-trick against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur has given him and the team a huge morale boost.
“He just has to keep working hard. That is what he’s done and he got his reward.” James added.
“I’m happy for him. It’s a huge confidence boost for anyone to get a hat-trick, especially against such a good side.”
