Rio Ferdinand expressed his criticism towards Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold after another torrid performance in the 2-1 comeback win over Newcastle.
The Reds may have escaped fire with a narrow victory, but that didn’t stop the ex-Manchester United defender point the finger at the 24-year-old.
It was Alexander-Arnold’s error that put Newcastle in front in the first place and the defender should feel blessed not to be sent off for a second bookable offence.
This has forced Ferdinand to point out some worrying signs in Alexander-Arnold’s game.

“My real criticism and worry for Trent is that he’s making mistakes defensively, especially in 1 v 1 situations, that he’s been making the last year or two, even before that. You need him to learn.” said the 44-year-old.
“I don’t see that he’s going into the game going, “Right, I’m going to lock Gordon down.” Maybe it’s the way tactically that teams are set up in the games nowadays.”
