Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo spoke about the problems with the fans after both David Goffin and Iga Swiatek discussed the problem during their games, including the Belgium revealed a fan spat chewing gum at him in his 1st-round victory against the French Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
“Alcohol was allowed until that moment for the fans — not in all the stands – but now that will change,” the French Open tournament director shared. “If they drink more than allowed if they are not respectful, or if they throw things on the court, that’s it.”
Fans can still consume spirit drinks in the concourses and areas around the stands, but now they will not be able to do it next to the court.
Amelie added that things could get tougher if that didn’t improve fans’ behavior.
