The Belgian has been a top priority target for both clubs and it seemed the youngster was heading to Anfield after Liverpool were the first to agree terms with Southampton.
However, in an incredible U-turn the 19-year-old seems to have rejected the Reds in favor of joining Stamford Bridge in a deal, that is estimated to be worth around £50m.
Liverpool even made a bid of £60m, which is £10m more than the prize, required by Southampton.
Lavia is set to make a swift return to the Premier League from the Championship as the deal is expected to go through easily, given the good relationship between the two clubs.
