Russian and Belarusian players will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming women’s tennis tournament in Prague, the organizers said on Friday.
The decision comes a day after a highly controversial moment, when the police prevented a Russian player entering the country.
The director of the tournament didn’t specify who she was, but only said to have contained a Russian passport.
Despite recent complacency, which saw some events, such as Wimbledon, allowing Russian and Belarusian players back on the court, as long as they remain neutral by nationality, the Czech Republic remains strict in its ruling.
Similar situation applies in Poland, where last week Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva was sent packing from a WTA tournament in Warsaw.
