Aryna Sabalenka has defeated Maria Sakkari in a convincing fashion 6-4, 6-1 and secured herself a place in the Madrid Open final on Thursday.

The Belarusian looked comfortable all round and lost only 5 games en route to her convincing win. She will await her opponent from the second 1/2 final, played between Iga Swiatek and Veronika Kudermetova.
It is Sabalenka’s second consecutive final in clay court, having lost to Swiatek in Stuttgart last month. She will not only be seeking revenge, but will be aiming to emulate her success at the exact same event from 2021, when she emerged victorious.
Sabalenka’s fine recent form on clay is great news for the upcoming French Open, which starts on May 28. The Belarusian clinched her first Grand-Slam trophy in Australia earlier this year and will most certainly be looking to repeat that feat.
