The new deal doubles Bennett salary to $8 million per season

Stanley Cup champion Sam Bennett has signed a new eight-year, $64 million contract with the Florida Panthers, nearly doubling his annual salary to $8 million per season, according to the Associated Press.

Bennett was crucial in Florida’s back-to-back Stanley Cup victories, leading a dominant postseason campaign with 22 points—15 goals and 7 assists—across 23 games. His 13 goals on the road set a new NHL playoff record, while his overall playoff scoring broke the franchise record for most goals in a single postseason.

The 29-year-old Canadian forward, who joined Florida in a 2021 trade from the Calgary Flames, has steadily grown into a crucial piece of the Panthers’ core. Originally selected fourth overall by Calgary in the 2014 NHL Draft, Bennett has found his stride in Florida, culminating in his recent Conn Smythe Trophy win as the most valuable player of the playoffs.

Florida defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4–2 in the Stanley Cup Final for a second consecutive year, with Bennett once again proving to be one of the most lethal postseason performers in the league.
