The signing comes a few days after the Red Wings put the ex-6th overall selection on unconditional waivers for the purpose of deal termination.
Detroit GM Steve Yzerman shared a week ago that the forward and his agent wanted a trade a month ago, but a deal didn’t happen.
Filip was inked through the 2024-25 campaign at a cap hit of 1.825 million dollars. Zadina will forfeit over 4.5 million dollars over the next 2 years because he agreed to terminate his contract.
Picked with the 6th overall selection at the 2018 NHL Draft, the forward notched 3 goals and earned 7 points in 30 matches with Detroit in the past campaign. Zadina also played in 2 matches with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, as he scored 1 goal.
Yzerman believes that Filip can become a full-time National Hockey League player.
