Xander Schauffele claimed his second major title in three months by winning the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, holding off a strong challenge from Justin Rose. Schauffele’s impressive bogey-free six-under 65 on the final day brought his total to nine under, two strokes ahead of Rose, who finished with a 67.
This victory makes Schauffele the first player since Rory McIlroy in 2014 to win both The Open and the US PGA Championship in the same year. “Hearing your name called with Open champion after it is something I’ve dreamed of for a very long time,” said the newly crowned Champion Golfer of the Year.

For Justin Rose, the tournament marked his closest attempt at winning the Claret Jug since his joint fourth finish as a 17-year-old amateur in 1997. Despite his valiant effort and strong performance throughout the week, Rose fell short, finishing in joint second place alongside Billy Horschel. “The dream’s been alive all week and I did an awesome job,” Rose told BBC Sport. “This will be a tough one but a great one. I played in some of the hardest weather all week. I played some of the best golf but it didn’t quite add up to the trophy.”
Before this year, Xander Schauffele had never won a major championship.

Rose briefly led on six under after three birdies in his first seven holes, but Schauffele’s electrifying run of five birdies in nine holes from the sixth propelled him three strokes ahead. He completed the notoriously difficult back nine in just 31 shots, showcasing his skill and composure under pressure.
Overnight leader Billy Horschel, despite fading after a strong start, finished strongly with three birdies on the final three holes to join Rose in joint second place.
