The Brazilian won the 1st set after a tiebreak 7-6 (5) and had a great chance to win the 2nd set after a tiebreak also, but the Russian bounced back and won 7-6 (6) to tie the match 1:1 sets.
Medvedev won easily 6-2 in the 3rd set, and when everyone expected him to close the clash in 4 sets, Thiago again played better than Daniil in the 4th and the 5th set to triumph in them – 6-3 and 6-4 for the greatest victory in his career so far.
A lot was expected from Medvedev after he won the Rome Masters a few days ago, but he will need to leave Paris.
Seyboth Wild will play in the 2nd round of the Roland-Garros against the winner from Halys and Pella.
2 – Thiago Seyboth Wild is only the second Brazilian male to defeat a top-two ranked opponent at a Grand Slam event in the Open Era after Gustavo Kuerten, who achieved it twice – Safin (US Open 2002) and Federer (#RolandGarros 2004).
