For almost 4 decades, “Showtime Championship Boxing” has televised some of the biggest bouts in the business, but Showtime will exit boxing programming at the end of the year, the TV’s parent company, Paramount Global, shared today.
“As we make strategical decisions to more efficiently allocate resources and align our content offering across the business, we’ve made the unfortunate choice not to move forward with boxing and other content produced by the SHOWTIME sports team,” Paramount announced.
“SHOWTIME will broadcast the sport until the end of 2023. We want to thank our employees who have contributed to this award-winning sports programming over almost 40 years.”
The most popular boxer currently is Canelo Alvarez, who inked a 3-fight contract with PBC during the summer. The Mexican retained his undisputed super middleweight championship in September with a win against Jermell Charlo on Showtime PPV.
