After saving a break point to avoid going 0-4 down in the third set, Sinner seized control and reeled off nine straight games to swing the match decisively in his favour.
The defending champion, who had breezed through his opening two rounds without conceding more than three games in a set, showed his resilience as he extended his winning streak at hard-court majors to 24 matches. Sinner is now only the fourth man under 25—after Rafael Nadal, Boris Becker and Novak Djokovic—to notch 20 victories at each of the four Grand Slam events.

Shapovalov, seeded 27th, came out firing and claimed the opening set, but his challenge faltered under pressure. A costly run of nine double faults, including three in one pivotal service game that handed Sinner the break at 4-3 in the third, sealed his fate against the Italian.
