The world No.1 returned to action after much-needed break after Wimbledon title, showing great form ahead of US Open

Jannik Sinner wasted no time, producing a blistering performance at the Cincinnati Open to launch his title defence in style. The world No. 1, playing his first match since capturing his Wimbledon crown last month, dismantled Daniel Elahi Galan 6–1, 6–1 in just 59 minutes—the fastest victory of his season so far.

“Matches are always more different than practice sessions, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect today,” Sinner said after extending his perfect record against Galan to 3–0. “But I’m very happy. It’s not easy to play here—the ball is flying. You have to serve very precisely, but also with good pace if you want to go far in the tournament.”

Despite wearing a sleeve on his right arm following a heavy fall in the Wimbledon fourth round, the 23-year-old Italian showed no signs of discomfort. His precision and power were on full display as he fired seven winners against just five unforced errors and lost only one of 13 first-serve points in a dominant opening set.

In the second set, Sinner continued with his trademark baseline consistency, but didn’t hesitate to send some great drop shot in the third game before closing out the match with flying colors.
