Novak Djokovic missed out on securing the 100th title of his illustrious career, as Jannik Sinner triumphed in a high-quality Shanghai Masters final. The 23-year-old Italian world number one continued his phenomenal form in 2024, defeating Djokovic 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Djokovic, 37, was aiming to become only the third man in history, after Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103), to reach 100 career titles. Reflecting on the missed milestone, Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, said, “I have got to keep striving to make it happen somewhere in the near future. It’s not a live-or-die goal for me; I’ve achieved my biggest goals in my career.”

Sinner, who has been in incredible form this season, secured his seventh title of 2024, adding to his Australian Open and US Open triumphs. The Italian, despite dealing with a lingering doping case in the background, has won 65 of his 71 matches this year, making it a standout season in his career.
