Southampton beat Leeds 1-0 to return to Premier League

Southampton won against Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final and will play in the upcoming campaign in the Premier League, while the Whites suffered a 4^th straight play-off final loss.

As the only team to double over Leeds during the campaign in the 2nd tier of English football – featuring a 2-1 triumph at Elland Road on the final day – Russell Martin’s side entered the match with confidence that they could win the so-called ‘richest game in football.’ That’s how things went, as the only goal in the match was scored by Adam Armstrong in the 24^th minute after William Smallbone’s assist.

The Saints kept the 1-goal lead until the end including 9 minutes extra time as Leeds hit the woodwork in the final minutes of the game.
