Southampton won against Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final and will play in the upcoming campaign in the Premier League, while the Whites suffered a 4th straight play-off final loss.
As the only team to double over Leeds during the campaign in the 2nd tier of English football – featuring a 2-1 triumph at Elland Road on the final day – Russell Martin’s side entered the match with confidence that they could win the so-called ‘richest game in football.’ That’s how things went, as the only goal in the match was scored by Adam Armstrong in the 24th minute after William Smallbone’s assist.

The Saints kept the 1-goal lead until the end including 9 minutes extra time as Leeds hit the woodwork in the final minutes of the game.
The return to the Premier League means that Southampton will receive more than 100 million pounds as the Saints return to the EPL after just a single campaign in the 2nd tier with a triumph in their 1st-ever Championship play-off final ever.
