England head coach Gareth Southgate has recalled Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins for October’s matches vs. Australia and Italy at Wembley.
Watkins, who was called for the last time in March 2022, continued his impressive campaign, beginning with a hattrick vs. Brighton during the past weekend.
Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling is left out of a 4th successive roster.
West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen returns after missing out on last month’s games vs. Ukraine and Scotland.
The Three Lions will face Australia in a friendly on 13 October and Italy in qualification for the European Championship next year 4 days later.
Ollie shared he did not think he could “do anymore” to earn a place in Southgate’s squad after scoring 7 goals and giving 3 assists in 11 matches this campaign.
“Watkins has become a better player under Aston Villa’s manager Unai Emery,” Southgate claimed.
Jarrod Bowen and Ollie Watkins are back in England’s squad for their upcoming games following their recent Premier League form:
