One of Spain’s most successful footballers of the past 15 years, David Silva, is about to announce he is ending his career after he suffered a serious ACL injury. His club Real Sociedad announced yesterday that he injured his left knee during training.
According to Spanish newspaper El Largero, “a ligament in his left knee is partially torn, forcing the midfielder to end his career early.” He will be 38 next January, and the prospect of undergoing surgery on the affected area and then spending 6 or more months recovering is not liked by him.
David Silva played for 10 years at Manchester City and was part of Roberto Mancini’s side that won the English Premier League in 2012 in an epic battle. The Spanish playmaker had a crucial role in building the golden era at City, and he also won two European Championships and one World Cup with Spain.
