Tre Jones notched a career-high 26 points and reserves Doug McDermott and Josh Ricardson added 12 points apiece for Spurs’ first win since November 11.
The 73-year-old Popovich, who has the most wins of any coach in the NBA history, returned for a dustup between the bottom teams in the Western Conference standings after missing the previous two games with what the team termed a “minor medical procedure.”

Rookie Jabari Smith Jr. had 23 points for the Rockets. AlperenSengun added 16 points and 11 rebounds, with all five Houston starters scoring in double figures.
