The 30-year-old will have to go through an intervention on his right posterior ligament cruciate ligament as other treatments proved to be inefficient.
Adams has been sidelined ever since January, which forced him to miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season, along with the playoffs. The 6-foot-11 was targeting a return to the NBA until the announcement of his surgery.
The news are huge blow for the Grizzlies, who are currently lacking players after Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension and power forward Brandon Clarke, who is recovering from Achilles tendon.
Adams joined the Grizzlies at the start of the 2021-22 season after one season in New Orleans. He played in Oklahoma City his first seven years in the league. He has averaged 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in his 10-year career.
