Svitolina extra motivated against Azarenka because of war in Ukraine

Elina Svitolina stated that the war in Ukraine will fuel her with extra motivation in her 4th-round match against Victoria Azarenka at Wimbledon.

The former world No.3 pointed out that matches against Russian and Belarusian players always feel “different”.

“I’m playing for my country every single match that I play and this one will be even more special,” she said.

“A lot of Ukrainians will be watching, will be supporting me. I will go out there and put the fighting spirit on and just really fight for every single point.

“I just try to take it as a big motivation.”

The two players endured a heated match-up at the French Open, when Svitolina was booed off by the crowd for refusing to shake hands with her opponent.

Azarenka has won all of their last 5 meetings and she will be looking to continue that run.
