Noah Lyles’ pursuit of an Olympic sprint double ended in disappointment as he finished third in the men’s 200 meters final at the Paris Olympics. Lyles, known as the dominant force in the 200 meters and fresh off his confident assertion that he’d leave his competitors “depressed” after the race, couldn’t find his usual explosive form on Thursday night.
The first ever gold medal for Botswana in the history of the OLYMPICS.
Letsile Tebogo just did that ‼️

The American struggled from the start and was unable to gain ground on his competitors as they rounded the turn. Letsile Tebogo of Botswana capitalized on this, taking the lead and ultimately winning the gold medal with a time of 19.46 seconds. American Kenny Bednarek secured the silver medal with a time of 19.62 seconds, while Lyles had to settle for the bronze, clocking in at 19.70 seconds—far off his personal best and the world record held by Usain Bolt that he had hoped to challenge.
After crossing the finish line, Lyles appeared distressed and sat down on the track, receiving medical attention. After several minutes, he was taken off the track in a wheelchair, while his mother was seen rushing down a hallway in the Stade de France.
