Manchester United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has distanced himself from making any decisions regarding the future of under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag.
Ratcliffe, who assumed control of the club’s football operations in February, saw United trigger a one-year extension in Ten Hag’s contract in July. However, the team’s poor start to the season has led to increased scrutiny of the Dutchman’s position.
When asked about his confidence in Ten Hag, Ratcliffe told BBC Sport, “I don’t want to answer that question,” emphasizing that such decisions fall to the leadership team he has installed at Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe’s remarks followed a dramatic 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto, in which United squandered a two-goal lead and had captain Bruno Fernandes sent off.
“The United hierarchy needs to take stock and make some sensible decisions,” Ratcliffe said, hinting at possible changes but refusing to directly comment on Ten Hag’s future.
The United boss, formerly of Ajax, has been under increasing pressure following a series of disappointing results in both domestic and European competitions.
