The club from Old Trafford is targeting Ashworth to join their Ineos-inspired overhaul of the team.
The Magpies have Ashworth under deal, which stops Dan from working for anyone else into 2025 unless the club receives compensation. Newcastle are rumored to ask Man United for at least 10 million pounds to let their sporting director to join them.
However, Manchester United is unhappy with the asking price, which will be the biggest problem in the upcoming discussions between the Premier League sides.
Ashworth has a very high reputation, as his biggest mistake in Newcastle was the transfer of Sandro Tonali for 55 million pounds; the Italian played only 12 games for the Magpies before he was suspended for almost a year for betting violations in Italy.
