Thompson’s 4-goal game leads Sabres to 5-2 win vs. Devils

Tage Thompson’s notched 4 goals, including the go-ahead goal with almost 5 minutes until the end and the Buffalo Sabres defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-2 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY to stop Devils’ late-campaign postseason push.

Tage natural hat trick rallied the Sabres from 2 goals behind, and he notched his final goal into an empty net 6 seconds before the end of the match.

The defeat left New Jersey 5 points behind the Capitals, who are in the East’s 8^th and final postseason position. The Devils were defeated for just the 3^rd time this campaign – 16-2-1 — when leading after the 1^st period.

Sabres, at the same time, stayed mathematically in the race by climbing to the 12^th position in the Eastern Conference, 1 point ahead of the Penguins but 6 behind Washington.

New Jersey will welcome the Penguins next week on Tuesday, while Buffalo will host the Maple Leafs tomorrow night.
