The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced a multi-year contract extension for Head Coach Chris Finch on Monday. Although the specific terms were not disclosed, reports suggest the new deal is up to 2027/28 season.
President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly praised Finch as both a wonderful coach and person, noting that the extension is well-deserved given the team’s consistent improvement under his leadership. Finch led the Timberwolves to a 56-26 record in the 2023-24 season, the second-highest win total in franchise history. The team secured the third seed in the Western Conference and made the NBA Playoffs for the third consecutive year, a streak not seen since the franchise’s eight straight appearances from 1996-2004.

Timberwolves won an NBA-best 37 games against Western Conference opponents and led the conference with 26 road victories.
In the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Finch guided the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals for only the second time in franchise history and the first since 2004. The team swept the Phoenix Suns in the First Round, achieving their first playoff series sweep and first series win since 2004. They then triumphed over the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals, overcoming a 20-point deficit—the largest road comeback in a Game 7 in NBA Playoff history.
This extension reflects the Timberwolves’ confidence in Finch’s ability to continue leading the team towards further success and solidifying their position as a competitive force in the NBA.
