Sandro Tonali’s lawyers will be flying to Rome on Monday in order to negotiate plea bargain after the player openly admitted to gambling on football matches, reports say.
Tonali is one of three Italian players to have been investigated with Nicolo Zaniolo and Nicolo Fagioli already receiving a 7-month ban.
It is likely Tonali will quickly follow suit with reports suggesting he will be banned for up to a year.
In order to prevent such lengthy suspension the midfielder’s lawyers have changed the strategy and will ask for a plea bargain. Their main defense will be that Tonali openly admitted and collaborated with the Italian authorities.
Fagioli’s ban was significantly reduced after his public amdission and Tonali’s lawyers believe they can earn the same outcome for the Newcastle man.
