Cardinals will receive Matt Svanson in the trade, as the Canadian MLB franchise will also get cash considerations. To clear a room on the squad, Jordan Luplow was designated for assignment.
The exchange happened 24 hours after Toronto’s All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette left the match vs. the Baltimore Orioles with a right knee injury. The Orioles won that game.
The league’s exchange deadline is at 6 pm ET on Tuesday.
DeJong is batting .233 in the current campaign with 13 homers and 32 runs batted in.
Paul was an All-Star in 2019 when he struck a career-high 30 homers with 78 runs batted in.
