Toronto Raptors player Gary Trent Jr. decided to opt into his almost 19-million-dollar player option for the upcoming season; his agents told Chris Haynes of TNT.

If he declined his option, he would have become a free agent next month.
The reporters called the decision a surprise as now the guard will probably try to get a great deal next summer during the free agency or sign a long-term contract with the Canadian franchise. Both Raptors and Trent Jr. will discuss that.
With him back on the roster, Toronto will have difficulty getting Fred VanVleet and Jakob Poeltl back at market value, as they will have to pay a luxury tax.
