Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has said it was a “mistake” to hire Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte as managers. Levy added that the Premier League club needed to get back to their roots with new manager Angelos Postecoglou.
In March, former Juventus head coach Conte became the second specialist to leave the Londoners in just over three years, after Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement Jose Mourinho was sacked two years earlier.
“I want them to win as much as anybody,” Levy said. “The irritation with the lack of trophies and the pressure maybe from some players and a lot of the fan base that we have to win, spend money, bring in a big coach, a big name, probably got to me,” he added.
“I went through a period where we almost won. We had very, very good times with Mauricio. We didn’t win a trophy but we were very close and we changed the strategy. It was to bring in a successful specialist and we did it twice. We have to learn from our mistakes ” said Daniel Levy.
“Mourinho and Conte are great managers, but maybe not for this club. We want to play a certain way and that means the road to success may take a little longer. That’s exactly why I think bringing in Postecoglou was the right decision.” , Levy concluded.
