The sixth seeded in the ATP Finals tournament in Torino Stefanos Tsitsipas was forced to retire from his clash with world number 10 Holger Rune after just three games, trailing 1-2 in Turin.
Thus, the first match of the daily schedule lasted just 15 minutes, and the Greek was booed by the audience for his decision.
The organizers tried to react quickly in suppressing the dissatisfaction of the public who bought tickets for elite tennis. The two reserves of the ATP Finals, Hubert Hurkach and Taylor Fritz, quickly came to the rescue to play a demonstration set.

It is the Dane’s first career win at the ATP Finals and he already has a point under his belt after a dramatic three-set defeat by Novak Djokovic in his previous match. Tsitsipas has two losses and it is not clear whether he will not have to be replaced by the first reserve Hubert Hurkac for the third round in the group against Jannik Sinner if the retirement is due to an injury.
Stefanos Tsitsipas on his retirement to Holger Rune at ATP Finals:
“My apologies to all the fans who came today.. I’m gutted that I wasn’t able to finish. It’s a shame also not to give that spot to someone else to at least try & do something with it.”
