England boss Thomas Tuchel gave a press conference ahead of the international break and revealed that the March camp was “unique,” giving more footballers the opportunity to fight for their place during the stressful moment of their club campaign.
The German head coach also revealed that 11 experienced footballers, such as Kane, Saka, and Rice, will join the team next weekend to prepare for the game against Japan and will miss the friendly with Uruguay.
Tuchel also spoke about why he didn’t call Trent and Ollie now: “I already know what Ollie Watkins and Trent Alexander-Arnold can offer for England and wanted to give a chance to other footballers this camp.”
Thomas also shared with the reporters why he named the Red Devils duo Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire in his squad: “Man United had been fantastic since Michael Carrick became the manager, and Mainoo and Maguire have been crucial for the success of the Red Devils during that period. It’s my final opportunity to get to know new footballers before the World Cup, and that’s why I called them now.”
