On Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their second significant move of the offseason by finalizing a four-player trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. This transaction involved acquiring Tyler Glasnow, who, after agreeing to a lucrative $136.5 million, five-year contract, became a key addition to bolster the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Alongside Glasnow, Los Angeles also welcomed outfielder Manuel Margot.
In exchange, the Dodgers parted ways with young right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca. This move followed the team’s recent signing of free agent Shohei Ohtani to a groundbreaking $700 million, 10-year contract, reinforcing their already formidable lineup.
Addressing a pitching need, the Dodgers secured Glasnow, a hard-throwing right-hander with a history of dominance when healthy, despite his susceptibility to injuries. At 30 years old, Glasnow had one season remaining at $25 million and would have become a free agent after the upcoming season. The tentative agreement for the trade was reached on Thursday, with Major League Baseball granting a 72-hour negotiation window, which concluded on Sunday, allowing the Dodgers to secure Glasnow’s commitment to a new deal.
