The football governing body charged Romania with racist behavior.

UEFA has charged Romania with 5 offenses, including racist behavior, because of what happened during the clash vs. Kosovo.

The European qualification in Bucharest was suspended for almost an hour 3 days ago after provocative chanting from the home supporters in the stadium.

The fans screamed “Serbia, Serbia” and held banners that claimed that “Kosovo is Serbia.”

The Romanian FA was also penalized for a “provocative message of an offensive nature.”

Kosovo became independent from Serbia in 2008 after long-strained relations between its Serb and mainly Albanian citizens.

Serbia thinks of Kosovo as the birthplace of their nation but now fewer than 10% of its inhabitants are Serb, and more than 90% are Albanians.

Romania didn’t recognize the new country’s status despite Kosovo being recognized by 100 countries.

Another offensive banner was “Bessarabia is Romania,” as the region is now part of Moldova and Ukraine.
