The legendary world record of 209 centimeters in the high jump, set by Bulgaria’s Stefka Kostadinova, has been broken after nearly 37 years.
Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 210 centimeters at the Diamond League meeting in Paris, surpassing the long-standing record.

Stefka Kostadinova’s record of 209 centimeters was established at the World Championships in Rome on August 30, 1987. Mahuchikh, only 22 years old, successfully jumped 210 centimeters on her first attempt after already securing the gold medal. Before breaking the world record, she set a new national record for Ukraine at 207 centimeters on her second attempt.

“I had the feeling that I could jump 207, maybe even 210 centimeters. Finally, I managed to write Ukraine into the history of world athletics,” Mahuchikh said to World Athletics.
