The USA has parted ways with head coach Gregg Berhalter following their disappointing exit from the Copa America group stage.
The team, serving as host nation, was knocked out after losses to Panama and Uruguay, making them the first host nation in the tournament’s history to be eliminated at this stage.

Matt Crocker, the sporting director of the United States Soccer Federation, expressed gratitude for Berhalter’s contributions over the past five years. “We are deeply grateful to Gregg for his commitment the past five years to the men’s national team and to US soccer,” Crocker said. “Gregg has earned the respect of everyone within our organisation and has played a pivotal role in bringing together a young team and moving the program forward.”
Rumors are swirling about potential successors, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp being a prominent name linked to the position. Crocker confirmed that the search for a new head coach is underway.
Berhalter, 50, had two separate tenures as the USMNT head coach, with his first stint ending in 2022 amid an investigation into his past conduct. The USA’s early Copa America exit has expedited the need for a fresh direction, especially as the nation looks forward to co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico.
