Valeri Nichushkin marked his comeback by netting a power-play goal in overtime, propelling the Colorado Avalanche to a 2-1 triumph over the Minnesota Wild in Denver on Friday night. After missing 22 games in the last two months while participating in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, Nichushkin secured his 23rd goal of the season at 2:32 of the extra session.
Nathan MacKinnon contributed two assists, extending his home point streak to 32 games, and Artturi Lehkonen added a goal. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev made 29 saves for the Avalanche. On the opposing side, Brock Faber scored, and Filip Gustavsson turned away 38 shots for Minnesota.
MacKinnon’s achievement tied him with Guy Lafleur for the third-longest home point streak in NHL history. With another point in Colorado’s upcoming home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 22, MacKinnon could equal Wayne Gretzky for the second-longest home point streak.
At the same time in Seattle in the third period, Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry, and Nikolaj Ehlers each found the net, while Laurent Brossoit secured his first shutout of the season with 17 saves for 3-0 win over Kraken.
The Winnipeg Jets triumphed over the host Seattle, avenging their 4-3 loss to the Kraken earlier in the week. Brossoit’s performance marked his fourth career shutout as the Jets claimed their victory, marking their 10th win in the last 13 games.
Despite Joey Daccord’s efforts with 29 saves for the Kraken, the two-game winning streak for Seattle came to an end.
