Red Bull have confirmed that their former driver, 4-time World Champions Sebastian Vettel is set to make his return in his title winning 2011 car – the RB7 – at the famous Nordschleife circuit.
Along with Daniel Ricciardo, his former teammate, Vettel will drive exhibition laps on September 9.
‘The myth of the Nordschleife resonated, even if we ‘only’ drove the GP track at the time. In any case, it will be great fun to drive my RB7 – fuelled with e-fuel – on the Nordschleife as part of a show run,’ Vettel said.
The 35-year-old retired at the end of last year after 15 highly successful years in the sport, setting many records, some of which are still and may never be broken.
It will be the first time in over a decade that Nordschleife welcomes a F1 car, with the circuit holding regular grand prix in the distant past – from 1951 up until 1976, where Nikki Lauda suffered his near fatal crash.
