The Eagles are enduring a wretched streak of 12 consecutive games without a win, which has left them only 3 points above the relegation zone. The French manager had been under fire in recent weeks due to his team’s struggles and after Wednesday 1-0 defeat against Brighton there was no turning back for the former Arsenal legend.
Club chairman Steve Parish published a statemant on the club website, in which he thanked Viera for the job he has done at Selhurst Park, but the decision stems from their willingness to preserve their top-flight status.
“It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made,’ he wrote.
“Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.”
Crystal Palace face Premier Legue leaders Arsenal on Sunday and it is still uncertain who will take charge over club in their quest to end the rotten run of form.
