Rockets beat Mavs in Dallas, despite Doncic's 29-point-game

Victor Wembanyama rebounded from one of his most challenging NBA performances with an incredible 5×5 stat line, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a decisive 106-88 victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night in Salt Lake City. After scoring a career-low six points in a loss against Oklahoma City just the night before,

Wembanyama bounced back in a big way, recording 25 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five blocks, and five steals. This was the second time the 20-year-old center achieved a 5×5 (registering at least five in five major statistical categories), a rare feat in the NBA. Wembanyama joins NBA legends Hakeem Olajuwon and Andrei Kirilenko as one of only three players to accomplish the 5×5 multiple times; Olajuwon managed the feat six times, while Kirilenko did it three.

Wembanyama received significant support from veteran point guard Chris Paul, who contributed 19 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, and two steals for the Spurs. Utah, missing their top scorer Lauri Markkanen, struggled to keep up, with Collin Sexton leading the Jazz offense with 16 points.

Meanwhile, in Dallas, Jalen Green led the Houston Rockets with 23 points, helping them withstand a late rally from the Mavericks to win 104-97. Green hit a clutch 3-pointer with just over a minute left, steadying the Rockets after Luka Doncic brought Dallas back within three points, 100-97, with his own 3-pointer. Dillon Brooks and Alperen Sengun added to the Rockets’ offense, each scoring 17 points. Sengun also matched Green with a game-high 12 rebounds. Houston’s bench chipped in with 25 points and eight rebounds combined from Amen Thompson and Tari Eason.

Dallas’s rally was driven by a dominant fourth quarter from Luka Doncic, who scored 15 of his game-high 29 points on 6-for-8 shooting in that final period. Kyrie Irving contributed 28 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, keeping Dallas competitive throughout. Klay Thompson, although quieter overall, sparked the Mavericks’ comeback attempt with eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, but Houston’s steady offense ultimately secured their victory.
